Randall Cosco
Photographer  Artist   Blacksheep

Being a self proclaimed Black Sheep can be a pretentious badge of honor. It can also be a liberating life motto of an artist who actually walks the talk and cultivates a career exposing uncomfortable truth when it matters most. The Killers summed it nicely with the line: “I’ve got Soul but I’m not a solider”.

Art isn’t just politics. Picasso said that art is not truth. It is a lie we use to reveal the truth. Randall accomplishes truth through juxtaposition: An arab women wearing a burqa with beautiful eye makeup, the Vancouver Chief of Police with a gun to his head (shot well before HBO “The Wire” was released :) . It’s the job of an artist to make the uncomfortable statements we will in time embrace as truth.

If I can use one more quote: “Every society honors its live conformists and its dead troublemakers” – Mignon McLaughlin.

Randall  has shot hundreds of covers for Vancouver magazines, newspapers, and other media. I admire his tenacity to consistently provide a new perspective on the human condition.
